You are all invited to the Creativity Court this Saturday for YELF Literary Evening with the amazing Samira Sanusi where she will talk about her journey as a sickle cell survivor and her two wonderful books. Samira will be joined by writer and photographer TJ Benson who will be exhbiting his wonderful portraits.

We are also calling on the Poetry community in Kaduna to come and thrill us with their words as the stage would also be open.

Who is Samira Sanusi?

Samira Haruna Sanusi is a Nigerian writer and Sickle Cell awareness advocate. Samira is the President of the Samira Sanusi Sickle Cell Foundation, an Abuja-based NGO. She is also the author of “S is for Survivor”, a memoir about her personal experiences with Sickle Cell Anemia and getting cured. Her book titled “I Wrote This For You” is a collection of prose, poetry, philosophical quotes and short essays which will be published later this year. Her previous publication has won the Marine Platform Prize for Writing in Northern Nigeria and Nigerian Writers Award – Advocacy Book of the Year. Samira also received an award for member of the Crans Montana Forum – New Leaders for Tomorrow.

TJ Benson is a short story writer, creative photographer and Spaghetti enthusiast whose works have appeared in online and print journals like Kalahari Review, Munyori Journal, the 14th issue of sentinel magazine, Paragram Uk, Contemporary literary review India and more recently Transition Magazine.

He has completed a collection of photography and poetry titled ‘Self’, a collection of prose-poetry and parables ‘The Devils Music’, A collection of afro-sci-fi stories titled ‘We Won’t Fade into Darkness’ and is currently at work on a novel ‘The Madhouse’. TJ was among the participants of the first Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation Creative Writing Workshop.
